Two Men In Military Gear Conversing
Law Enforcement and EMS Sectors

The Mission Is to Keep Everyone Coming Home.

Core Connections and SafeSide CARE help law enforcement, EMS, and justice teams recognise risk, respond with confidence under pressure, and support one another through challenging situations. Together, they strengthen team cohesion, promote consistent responses, and help ensure no one carries risk alone. Through facilitated team discussions, practical learning activities, and role-specific training, staff build skills they can apply in everyday interactions and high-pressure situations.

Core Connections has been successfully implemented in high-pressure team environments where trust, connection, and early support are critical to safety and performance. Core Connections, known as Wingman Guardian Connect in the United States Air Force, reduces hidden suicide risk (Wyman et al., 2020, 2022) and fosters a culture of support. The program protects vulnerable team members through stronger networks, not just individual detection.

Wingman Connect training is different in a way because it has a lot more interactivity within it. There's a lot more I put into it, and the more I put into it, the more I'm getting out of it because I'm really sharing with others and accepting other people's takes.

A change that I noticed within myself after [Core Connections] is I feel like I've opened up a lot more. I've always been an outgoing and very open book type of person, but I also never left my room. I'll be frank, I just don't leave my room. I'm not going to, I don't want to. But since I made a lot of those friendship bonds in [Core Connections], people forced me to leave my room and really want to go places.

The people who run [Core Connections] have a good way of being like, ‘Hey, this person from this group hasn't spoken, so let's get your take’. And then that person who once felt lonely has a chance to express themself and maybe connect with others a little bit more. And I feel like that's really important.

What matters most

Strong Teams. Clear Response.

These roles rely on trust, communication, and people looking out for each other. SafeSide builds on that foundation. It strengthens connections across teams and gives staff a clear way to respond when someone is struggling. Leaders act with confidence, responses are consistent, and no one is left to manage risk alone. Together, Core Connections and SafeSide CARE form one system.

While Core Connections strengthens how teams support one another, SafeSide CARE provides a practical framework for responding when someone is experiencing suicidal distress. When it comes to safety planning, "what" you do matters, but "how" you do it matters more. SafeSide CARE is created through clinical and lived experience expertise and provides evidence-based strategies, such as developing safety plans for foreseeable changes and engaging support networks.

SafeSide CARE Testimonials

This workshop has assisted in boosting my confidence in how to most appropriately approach a person at risk of suicide, particularly in my work environment. There are times it can feel very daunting when you are working with someone that you don't know (or have a familiar relationship with) that are expressing thoughts of suicide. This workshop helped solidify my confidence in how to most appropriately provide assistance to a person I am not familiar with.

Direct Support Staff, SafeSide CARE Participant

SafeSide's content and its people are amazing. The support we receive and the connections that have been made are improving our ability to provide a service that is truly "beyond safety". We already held the values, many parts of the knowledge, and some of the skills, but the SafeSide Framework brings it all together, and helps us to identify what we are doing well and where we need to keep building.
