Western Australia SafeSide Project Snapshot: March 2026
Local services across Western Australia are now well underway in implementing SafeSide CARE programs, building skills, sharing learning, and supporting safer care in their communities. The energy and commitment from services across WA are inspiring. Thank you to every team, leader, and participant who is making this work possible.
Below is a brief update on progress to date.
SafeSide CARE
SafeSide CARE is a suicide prevention workforce education program with adaptations for mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and youth services. Learn more here.
Health Service Providers have led from the front with implementation well underway:
East Metro Health Service (EMHS) is progressing toward its 70% workforce target.
South Metro Health Service implementation planning is underway to roll out SafeSide CARE to the mental health workforce.
North Metro Health Service will commence the implementation of SafeSide CARE shortly.
Western Australia Country Health Service (WACHS), the Midwest Region, will commence implementation this month, with four other regions to follow soon after.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) is on board and will commence implementation for their workforce at the start of April.
We continue to see strong uptake of the initiative with community providers across WA. Thank you to teams from the organisations listed below for your enthusiasm and collaboration over recent months:

SafeSide Restore
SafeSide Restore supports organisational leaders in WA to foster a just, learning, and restorative culture following suicide or critical incidents. Learn more here.
Five Restore Network sessions have now been facilitated, with the next one scheduled for April. 14 organisations have been represented in the network to date - a testament to the growing commitment to restorative leadership across Western Australia.
Core Connections
Core Connections (formerly known as SafeSide Connect) is a highly interactive, facilitated, group-based training program delivered over six hours to strengthen first-responder teams. Learn more here.
Following positive feedback on the 2025 SafeSide Connect sessions with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), we are inviting interest in further sessions from DFES, WA Police, and the Justice Department.
Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality Training (CAMS)
The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) training is a specialised training that equips staff to deliver brief, suicide-focused interventions for people experiencing suicidal thoughts or suicidality. Learn more here.
Uptake has been strong, with a number of clinicians and mental health and suicide prevention practitioners completing the training to date. There is also active engagement with current participating services.
To date, feedback from participants has been extremely positive: "What a wonderful training package. I am incredibly impressed with every aspect — from our wonderful trainer to how efficiently each section is laid out. Excellent. Certainly recommended."
